Modbe was founded in 2005.  The company quickly became known as a leader in the modest fashion industry, carrying basic layering t-shirts, tops, skirts and denim, with a particular strength in the swimwear category.  Modbe's distribution was historically centered around the home party sales channel, and they offered their products exclusively through Modbe Fashion Consultants.  

DownEast Outfitters acquired the Modbe brand in early 2010 after the original Modbe clothing company went out of business. DownEast relaunched the Modbe website in April 2010 , relaunching the Modbe website with a focus on swimwear.  DownEast plans to expand the Modbe line targeting late Fall throughout the 2010 with a commitment to the original Modbe traditions of high quality and modest styles at attractive pricepoints.
